At some point, every piece of recycling equipment reaches the end of its service life.

The key is knowing when to repair — and when to replace.

Black River Trading recently completed a project in Ohio where a customer’s auto-tie baler had run its course and was retired, replaced with a frontline unit to restore performance and reliability.

Replacing an Aging Auto-Tie Baler

Auto-tie balers are designed for long-term industrial use, but over time:

  • wear accumulates
  • maintenance costs increase
  • performance declines
  • downtime becomes more frequent

In this case, the customer made the decision to replace the existing unit rather than continue repairing aging equipment.

BRT handled the process from removal through installation and startup, ensuring a smooth transition.

Reconditioning and Upgrading the Bale Table

In addition to the baler replacement, the BRT team also:

  • Reconditioned the existing bale discharge table
  • Adjusted and increased table height to properly support bale discharge

This is a critical but often overlooked component of a baling system.

Proper bale table alignment and support help:

  • maintain bale shape and density
  • improve stacking and handling
  • reduce risk of bale deformation
  • enhance overall safety during discharge

Why System Details Matter

A baler does not operate in isolation.

System components such as conveyors, discharge tables, and material flow all impact performance.

When upgrading or replacing equipment, addressing these details ensures the entire system works together efficiently.

The BRT Approach to Equipment Replacement

At Black River Trading, projects like this focus on more than just swapping equipment.

We aim to:

  • restore reliable performance
  • improve system efficiency
  • enhance safety
  • support long-term operation

From baler replacement to supporting components, every part of the system matters.

Supporting Industrial Recycling Equipment in Ohio

This project is a great example of how facilities in:

  • box plants
  • distribution centers
  • industrial operations

can benefit from evaluating equipment lifecycle and making the right decisions at the right time.

Final Thought

Knowing when equipment has reached the end of its useful life is just as important as maintaining it.

Replacing aging equipment and improving supporting components can significantly improve performance, safety, and efficiency.

Another project completed — and another satisfied customer.
