A high-production auto-tie baler is designed to save labor.

Material enters the system.

The baler automatically cycles.

The bale is automatically tied.

The finished bale exits.

And then what?

Does someone still have to stop what they're doing every time a finished bale comes out?

If the answer is yes, there may be another opportunity to automate the process.

The Balemaster Finished Bale Transfer and Storage Conveyor System is designed to automatically transfer and accumulate finished bales until they're ready for removal.

It's a relatively simple concept that can solve two significant problems:

Labor and floor space.

Let the Bales Accumulate

Without finished-bale accumulation, the discharge of another bale can create another task.

A finished bale exits.

Someone has to deal with it.

Then another bale exits.

Someone has to deal with that one.

The cycle continues throughout the shift.

The Balemaster Finished Bale Transfer and Storage Conveyor System changes that process.

The system automatically moves finished bales into a storage area where they can accumulate until it's convenient for the operation to remove them.

Balemaster's standard system is designed to automatically store approximately five to six mill-weight bales.

That creates a valuable buffer between bale production and bale removal.

Your People Don't Have to Work on the Baler's Schedule

This is where the labor savings become interesting.

The baler doesn't care what your forklift operator is doing when another bale is finished.

Your forklift operator might be:

Loading a truck.

Moving raw material.

Handling finished goods.

Supporting production.

Working in another part of the facility.

Without accumulation, that person may need to interrupt another task to address a finished bale.

With bale accumulation, multiple bales can wait.

Balemaster specifically identifies reduced bale-handling time and the ability to schedule forklift operation as advantages of the system.

That's the value.

Your people can spend more time doing the work that requires people.

Let the equipment handle the repetitive movement.

Five or Six Bales Can Represent a Meaningful Window of Time

Think about what finished-bale accumulation means operationally.

Instead of responding to:

Bale #1.

Then bale #2.

Then bale #3.

Then bale #4.

Then bale #5.

Your operation can allow those bales to accumulate and remove them together when it makes sense.

That doesn't eliminate the need to handle finished bales.

It changes when that handling needs to happen.

And scheduling work is much more efficient than constantly reacting to it.

Then There's the Floor-Space Problem

Labor isn't the only reason this system is interesting.

Many facilities simply don't have unlimited room around their recycling equipment.

The best location for the baler may have limited discharge space.

There may be:

  • Production equipment nearby
  • Structural columns
  • Forklift traffic
  • Pedestrian areas
  • Existing conveyors
  • Building limitations
  • Other equipment
  • Limited open floor space

Balemaster addresses this with a right-angle bale transfer.

The finished bale travels out of the baler and reaches the transfer area. A pneumatically powered bale pusher then moves the bale 90 degrees from its original direction of travel onto the storage conveyor.

Instead of needing all of the accumulation space in one straight line, the system allows the finished bales to be redirected.

Balemaster specifically notes that the right-angle transfer allows minimum plant floor space to be utilized by turning the bale rather than allowing it to continue in its original direction.

Sometimes the Solution Isn't Finding More Space

That's an important point.

When laying out a new recycling system, it's easy to say:

“We don't have enough room.”

But sometimes you don't need more room.

You need to use the available room differently.

The Balemaster layout drawing shows the transfer section positioned across the bale's discharge path with the storage conveyor runs extending perpendicular to it.

That configuration can create opportunities in facilities where a conventional straight-line accumulation layout isn't practical.

Look Beyond the Baler

This is exactly why Black River Trading wants to understand the complete application when discussing new equipment.

A new Balemaster auto-tie baler might provide:

More production.

Automatic tying.

Better bale density.

Improved reliability.

But what happens before and after the baler matters too.

How does material get to it?

How much labor is involved?

What happens when the finished bale exits?

How often does a forklift need to respond?

Where do finished bales accumulate?

How much floor space is available?

The best equipment solution addresses the process, not just one machine.

Automation Doesn't Have to Be Complicated

Sometimes we hear “automation” and immediately think of an enormous capital project.

It doesn't always have to be that complicated.

Automation can simply mean removing repetitive tasks from someone's day.

Automatically feed material.

Automatically cycle the baler.

Automatically tie the bale.

Automatically move the finished bale.

Automatically accumulate several bales.

Then let your people handle them when it makes sense for the operation.

That's useful automation.

Balemaster + BRT

This is another reason we're proud to represent Balemaster.

Balemaster doesn't just manufacture auto-tie balers.

They engineer equipment around the entire baling process, including finished bale transfer and storage systems designed to improve how the equipment fits into the customer's operation.

Black River Trading brings the application side.

We want to understand your material, production requirements, labor, facility layout, forklift traffic, existing equipment, and future growth.

Then we can work with Balemaster to develop the right solution.

Black River Trading is the Authorized Balemaster Distributor for Ohio, Michigan, Kentucky, and Western Pennsylvania.

If you're considering a new Balemaster auto-tie baler or finished-bale handling system, let's look at the entire process.

Save space. Save handling time. Let the bales accumulate. Put your people where they're more valuable.
