Then count how many times an employee has to touch, move, reposition, dump, push, or handle it before it leaves.

You may be surprised by the answer.

One Touch Doesn't Seem Expensive

Moving a cart takes a few minutes.

Dumping a Gaylord takes a few minutes.

Moving material toward a conveyor takes a few minutes.

Removing a finished bale takes a few minutes.

None of those tasks look particularly expensive individually.

But multiply them by:

Every load.

Every shift.

Every day.

Every week.

Every year.

Suddenly those minutes become meaningful labor hours.

Start at the Beginning

How is material collected?

Where does it go next?

Does someone manually transport it?

Could a conveyor move it?

Could an air system transport it?

Could a box dumper eliminate manual handling?

Does bulky material require shredding before processing?

Then continue following the material.

What Happens at the Baler?

Is the baler manually loaded?

Does someone need to constantly monitor the feed?

Does the machine require manual tying?

Does material regularly bridge or jam?

Could an auto-tie baler eliminate repetitive manual intervention?

Then follow the finished bale.

Don't Forget the Finished Bale

A machine produces the bale.

Someone removes it.

Then where does it go?

Is it moved again?

And again?

Finished-bale transfer and accumulation systems can allow several bales to accumulate before removal rather than requiring someone to react to every bale produced.

Again:

Count the touches.

Automation Should Give Time Back

The goal isn't to automate something because automation sounds impressive.

The goal is to remove repetitive, low-value tasks.

Let conveyors move material.

Let box dumpers dump it.

Let shredders reduce it.

Let auto-tie balers tie it.

Let bale-transfer systems accumulate finished bales.

Then let your employees focus on the work where people actually add value.

What Would One Less Touch Be Worth?

Remove one unnecessary material-handling step.

Multiply the time saved by every load processed annually.

Then multiply that across several unnecessary steps.
